Transfer Targets: Five possible midfielders for United

For years the fans have been crying out for United to break the bank and bring in a world-class midfielder, only to be greeted with Sir Alex saying ‘there is no value in the market’. To an extent this is probably true, but whats also clear is that we need that type of player if we want to challenge in Europe.

We have youngsters such as Nick Powell and Adnan Januzaj who can play in midfield, but these two simply aren’t ready for top level football week-in week-out. Now that Moyes is in charge, we may well see a midfielder of sufficient calibre come in, so we’ve compiled a list of five potential targets.

Thiago Alcantara – £15million

The Barca youngster has been limited to appearances from the bench for most of the season, and has recently admitted he’ll have to make some decisions about his future soon. Although he has ruled out making a choice anything until the end of the U21 European Championships next month. Also he and Carrick would work well together.

Cesc Fabregas – £25million

Another who has found himself somewhat out of favour under Tito Vilanova at Barcelona is Cesc Fabregas. United have been linked with a ‘shock’ £25million move for the former Arsenal man who has found the net 13 times this season. Is he really the type of player we need though?

Victor Wanyama – £15million

The Kenyan international has had an outstanding season for Celtic this year. Including two wonderful displays against Barcelona in the Champions League. At just 21 years of age he still has a lot of developing to do, so he may not walk straight into the first team. The other downside is the fact that we’d lose him due to the African Cup of Nations every other year.

Kevin Strootman – £15million

Kevin Strootman’s named has been thrown around by United fans for the past year or so, but do we really know much about the 23-year old from Holland? Personally i’ve seen him play once or twice, and although he has that steely style of play that United need, i’m not convinced as of yet.

Marouane Fellaini – £20million

The big Belgian was brought to Everton by David Moyes for a fee of £15million, so its going to take at least that to tempt Everton into accepting a bid for him. His links to Moyes make him a realistic target, but he does pick up an awful lot of silly bookings and sendings off.

For me, Thiago Alcantara is the one I want. He’s young and has a great eye for a pass and I’d love to see him in our midfield alongside Michael Carrick. I remember that screamer he scored against us in pre-season a couple of years ago and being amazed by his overall display. Since then Barca haven’t found a spot in the starting line-up for him, so lets hope David de Gea can do some persuading whilst on international duty!

  1. Dis is nice, but this is the truth. Fellini is a player with hunger just as RVP. He has played in the Epl as U have seen him do it.
