Liverpool star, Trent Alexander-Arnold, has heaped the praise on the in-form Marcus Rashford.
The Manchester United and Liverpool rivalry is probably the biggest within English football. It’s historical, competitive and local. The two sets of fans absolutely detest each other – and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Perhaps the only time these differences are put aside is when they’re on international duty. Several United and Liverpool players are currently teaming up in Qatar, in an effort to bring the World Cup back home. Obviously, that’s easier said than done.
One Red Devil, in the form of Marcus Rashford, is loving life while away with the Three Lions right now. He’s scored three goals in just one start and one substitute appearance.
Now, he has been labelled ‘underrated’ by his international teammate and Liverpool icon, Trent Alexander-Arnold. The right-back would go on to say that you ‘don’t want to play against him’ because he worries defenders.
It’s hard to disagree. A fully fit and firing Rashford is genuinely up there amongst the best players in the business. There’s no getting away from that.
Check out what Alexander-Arnold had to say on Rashford in full here:
“Excitement”, Alexander-Arnold told talkSPORT when asked what Rashford brings. “That’s the first thing, when he steps on the pitch, the first you think is that he is going to use his pace, his speed to get in behind to get at people. He’s skilful, he can score and create.
“As defenders, you don’t want to play against him because you’re worried about what he is going to do. If he’s going to score, if he’s going to create, so to have him on our team, you know what defenders are thinking.
“He’s an outstanding player. He’s underrated, I think he’s someone who can win games for club and country – he’s shown that before and I’m sure will continue to do that. He’s also someone that can help us win this tournament.”
Credit must go to Erik ten Hag for helping the Englishman rediscover his form. The forward was doubting his long-term future at the club over the summer. Now, he’s looking like one of United’s most important footballers.
Alexander-Arnold knows Rashford better than most. Remember those two goals Rashy scored against TAA in the 2-1 win over Liverpool a few years ago? He really did give the Liverpool man a tough afternoon that day.
What’s crazy is I still think Rashford can continue to improve. He’s now loving his football again and that’s always the first step to development. Give it another year or so with Ten Hag at the helm and I genuinely believe the attacker is only going to become an even better footballer.
