Axel Tuanzebe is disappointed he wasn’t given more opportunity last season.
Manchester United’s defence has often been highlighted as the weak link. Sure, Harry Maguire is still earning praise from Reds fans, though his lack of a partner is probably the reason why we didn’t challenge for major honours.
Victor Lindelof remained consistently inconsistent, while Eric Bailly was always injured. Perhaps the one player who wasn’t really given a fair shot was Axel Tuanzebe.
It seems as though he feels that way, too. According to the Manchester Evening News, the 23-year-old United man feels he deserved more first-team chances last season. Now, he’s expected to leave on loan for the 2021/22 campaign.
Tuanzebe only featured in eighteen games last term, and just three of his four Premier League starts came in May, when the season was practically over.
The United centre-half feels he received a lack of recognition, with both Premier League clubs and overseas teams interested in taking Tuanzebe for a season.
United’s youngest-ever reserve team captain played an absolute blinder against Kylian Mbappe in the Champions League last October. Since then, though, he’s been hit and miss. Perhaps that’s down to a lack of consistent minutes and a loan move should definitely help in that regard.
The question is, will Tuanzebe ever be trusted by Solskjaer to play in the United first-team? The Norwegian doesn’t feel sold on Tuanzebe, while if United go out there and sign a new defender this summer, it’d only be even harder for the 23-year-old upon his return.
I think that United should cash in and sell Tuanzebe now while he still has value. Sadly, I don’t see a way back for him at Old Trafford despite all his talents.
