Tyrell Malacia certainly enjoyed a good bounce-back game vs Omonia last night.
Manchester United Football Club left it late to secure all three points against Omonia, though the Old Trafford side did manage to grab the win – so that’s all that matters.
The game itself was a weird one. United always felt like the side in control, though the lads were struggling mightily in the final third. The lack of quality chance creation was somewhat of an issue, though credit must go to to the Omonia keeper, who played superbly.
Defensively, the club were never really troubled. The back line did their jobs well on that side of the ball. No doubt it was the full-backs who impressed the most.
Tyrell Malacia caught our eye immediately. After a poor performance against Omonia last week, the Dutchman was given the chance to return to the side after being dropped for the Everton match.
The former Feyenoord man had an excellent game numbers-wise, too, particularly in that first 45 minutes. Thanks to @StatmanDave for the information.
In that first half alone, the United star won 100% of his duels, completed a huge 96% of his passes and also carved out three opportunities. Honestly, that’s all you can ask for.
In this day and age, it’s all about having the right attitude. We have to be honest, Malacia stunk against Omonia last time out. He’s come back and proved his doubters wrong in the absolute perfect way.
The criticism of Malacia has been in the final third. The fact that he’s creating chances for his teammates here is another massive plus. Personally, I’d still like to see him overlap his full-back a little bit more, but that will come with time.
Now we genuinely have a battle for starts on our hands – which is exactly what the manager will want. Both Malacia and Luke Shaw bring different qualities to the table. It’s a good pair of full-backs to have.
