Tyrell Malacia likely to be Man United’s first summer signing

Man United are closing in on Tyrell Malacia, who will become the club’s first signing of the summer.

Although it has been a pretty leisurely start to the summer transfer window for Manchester United, it seems as though the club has recently been jolted into action.

A deal for Frenkie de Jong looks somewhat close, though the Dutch midfielder is likely not going to be the first addition of the Erik Ten Hag era.

Seemingly, that accolade will go to defender Tyrell Malacia, who is looking like becoming Ten Hag’s first addition of the summer.

According to the usually reliable Simon Stone, the transfer is likely to be completed in the ‘coming days’, after issues over representation of the player were sorted.

On top of that, negotiations for the aforementioned De Jong will continue.

With pre-season now just a week away, United will have to act quickly to get one (or both) of these guys aboard the plane that’ll head to Thailand on July 8th.

In regards to fit, Malacia is someone that Ten Hag is super familiar with from his time over in the Eredivisie. The new United boss will have had to coach against Malacia on several occasions last season, getting an up-close and personal look at the 22-year-old.

Although this signing is largely one for the future, I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if we see a heavy dose of Malacia this season. Luke Shaw continues to be plagued by injury and inconsistency, while Alex Telles’ form at the back end of last season can only be described as worrying.

The fee seems to be around the £13m mark for Malacia, too, which is extremely reasonable in the modern-day market.
