Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia is set to undergo his Man United medical today.

Well, we’ve absolutely been made to wait for our first addition of the summer transfer window, but it looks as though Manchester United are finally getting close to that.

The Old Trafford club have been linked with several names over the last couple of months, though one rumour that came out of absolutely nowhere last week was the Tyrell Malacia claims.

Erik ten Hag watched the left-back closely during his time over in the Eredivisie, seemingly identifying his Dutch compatriot as someone with massive potential.

Now, reliable journalist Howard Nurse has confirmed Malacia’s medical is set for today as the Reds close in on their first signing of the summer.

The 22-year-old is no doubt relishing the opportunity to move to the Premier League this summer.

In terms of transfer fee, all claims believe it’s a deal worth around £13-15m, which, for a player with Malacia’s talent, is incredibly cheap in this day and age.

Ten Hag’s idea and plan has been clear; surround yourself with familiarity and players you trust. Malacia is someone who fits that mould 100%.

The positive is that Malacia will not be expected to play straight away. The Dutchman is still learning his craft and no doubt he’ll need time to settle into these new surroundings. That’s not to say he cannot stake a claim for the starting berth from day one, though.

I guess it all comes down to what sort of form Luke Shaw is in to start the campaign. If the Englishman continues to display inconsistencies within his game, then I don’t see why Malacia can’t force his way into Ten Hag’s plans pretty early on in the season.
