Tyrell Malacia is finally nearing his long-awaited Man United comeback following injury.

Manchester United Football Club have been dealing with a major injury crisis for multiple months at this point in time. It stretches back to last Christmas, when the problems started to really ramp up.

One man who we haven’t seen since April of last year is Tyrell Malacia. The Dutchman missed out on the complete 2023/24 campaign with a severe knee issue that required multiple surgeries.

The Red Devils have rightly kept tight-lipped on Malacia’s potential return date, as they do not want to put extra pressure on the Dutch left-back’s shoulders.

However, boss Erik ten Hag finally offered a positive update on Malacia, claiming that the United star is now progressing ‘really well’ from his problem and making ‘big steps’.

Malacia is expected to make a return to first-team training at a short notice, while he should return to actual game action ‘soon’.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

“Of course, we want to motivate him to return, but it’s not so easy when you are so long away,” the boss told ManUtd.com.

“Over a season now from an injury to return, but he’s working very hard, he’s progressing really well in this moment.

“He’s making big steps, so we think, at short notice, we can expect him in the team training, and he is a talent, it’s natural.

“I expect also, soon, he can return into games then.”

This is just the start of the return for Malacia. I’d hazard a guess that it’s going to take multiple months before the defender is anywhere close to his best. Not only will his body need time to heal, but also mentally, it’s going to be tough at first.

For United, this is great news. The left-back position has turned into a real problem over the last twelve months as Luke Shaw’s injury issues aren’t letting up at all. Hopefully, Malacia can provide some real consistency at that position as we enter into 2025.

Now it’s down to Malacia to just take it slow, progress at his own pace and not rush back too quickly.
