Tyrell Malacia is now back in some form of training, after over a year out sidelined.

Manchester United Football Club endured some horrendous injury issues in the 2023/24 season. The Red Devils were without many key players for prolonged periods of time, making Erik ten Hag’s job even more difficult.

One player we did not see at all last term was Tyrell Malacia. The Dutchman suffered a knee injury last April, which has required two rounds of surgery to fix. Last week, we covered an update which claimed that the former Feyenoord man was not back in training, with mystery still surrounding his issue.

Well over the last 24 hours or so, Fabrizio Romano has provided some positive news on that front. He has confirmed a positive injury boost for United, with the player now back in training.

Malacia has been doing some individual work out on the grass, under the guidance of the United medical staff.

Check out Fabrizio Romano’s X post on the news here:

This still lets me know that Malacia is quite some way from returning to the senior training fold. I’d probably imagine he’ll be doing individual work for weeks before that step up is even considered.

Malacia will then need further weeks training with his teammates, before making another jump up to playing in actual games. The likely route is performing for the U21 side in friendly matches in September.

From that point, assuming he suffers no further setbacks, Malacia will gradually ramp up to a full first-team return. Fingers crossed we can see him out on the Old Trafford turf before the turn of the year.
