Man United defender Tyrell Malacia is unlikely to make his return from injury during this season.
It feels like all we’ve talked about this week is injuries. The Red Devils have been dealing with major treatment table woes all season long. It has absolutely derailed Erik ten Hag’s second campaign in charge…
One player we haven’t seen once this term is Tyrell Malacia. The left-back picked up an injury at the back end of the 2022/23 season, completely missing pre-season. He was expected to return, but he suffered an injury setback, further delaying his comeback.
Now, the Daily Mail have confirmed that United have been dealt further injury problems, with the media outlet stating that the defender is now ‘unlikely’ to make his return before the end of the campaign.
However, the Daily Mail have also added that the problems are not mental, which was apparently reported in Germany over the weekend.
This is just a major blow. Malacia had a decent debut season in the left-back position, playing some pretty steady stuff, filling in whenever required. He also added that bit of energy, fight and passion at the start of the term, which was must-needed at that point.
His absence has left United struggling in the left-back position. We always expect Luke Shaw to spend some time out sidelined, hence, your back-up has to be reliable. Malacia has been anything but – through no fault of his own.
In some senses, it may be a good thing that Malacia plans to focus on getting fully healthy for next season. The last thing he needs to do now is come back too quickly and risk further damage to the affected area.
Get well soon, Tyrell.
