RSC Anderlecht midfielder has admitted he is ready for ‘a new challenge’ away from his current club this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News. The 22-year-old was a part of Anderlecht’s team that played Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League last season; where he impressed.
It was just less than a week ago when Jose Mourinho apparently made an initial advance about the prospect of signing the Belgian, but at that time, any deal was unlikely. Things may have certainly changed now, however.
With the Red Devils having already bolstered their midfield options with the addition of Nemanja Matic, it seems pretty clear that it is an area that Mourinho is desperate to strengthen in.
Dendoncker is a talented young man, and in fact, he scored against United in the away leg of the aforementioned tie. There is no doubt that he has a big future in the game, but I’m still unsure as to whether we’ll make a move for him this summer.
Perhaps in the long-term. he’d be a tailor-made replacement for an ageing Michael Carrick, but I’d like to see him spend a little more time with his current club; where Dendoncker is playing week-in-week-out. Then, we can re-assess next summer.
