Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian has turned into somewhat of the forgotten man over the last couple of years.
With each transfer window that passes by, I think we’re now all expecting the defender to depart from Old Trafford. For whatever reason, though, the full-back is still here despite a major lack of playing opportunity.
Yesterday, however, FcInterNews, translated by Sport Witness, gave us another latest update on Darmian’s future. They say that Inter Milan are after a right-back as they won’t be making Cedric Soares’ loan move into a permanent one. That has led them to weigh up a move for United’s out-of-favour Darmian.
Apparently, the 29-year-old has expressed his desire to move back to his homeland, while there is good relations between Darmian’s agent and Inter’s CEO.
The potential stumbling block comes in the valuations. United apparently value Darmian at €10-12m (£9-11m), while Inter are only willing to pay somewhere around the €5-6m (£4m-5m) mark.
With just one year left on his deal, United’s hand could be forced into letting Darmian leave for considerably cheaper than they’d like. At this point, though, surely it just makes sense for the club to sell the Italian while he still has some value? We’ll just have to sit tight and wait to see how this one plays out…
