With Wayne Rooney set to depart Old Trafford this summer, United are trying to replace him with another world class player to overshadow any negativity due to the Wayne Rooney situation. The Mirror are reporting that the club are set to launch a massive £60million for Tottenham winger, Gareth Bale.
The 23-year old won both the Young Player and Player of the Year awards last season, but so far Tottenham have resisted United’s interest in their star player.
The move is apparently the main reason as to why Ed Woodward flew home from Sydney yesterday, along with trying to push through a deal for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas.
The signing would smash United’s current transfer record of £30.5m for Dimitar Berbatov back in 2008, with the signing also coming from Tottenham Hotspur. Their chairman, Daniel Levy has always got the best money possible for players, and I’d fully expect the same here if he decided to let Bale go.
