Man United fans were once again left buzzing with a top display from loanee James Garner, this time vs Liverpool.
Manchester United need to go back to what works for them. Putting trust in youth has served this club so well over the years, and an unnecessary switch away from the usual modus operandi has set this club back decades.
With a new manager set to be hired this summer, United need someone who puts trust in the academy and offers them chances. The club is overflowing with some brilliant youngsters who are chomping at the bit and ready for their chance to shine.
I’d also argue mentally, the U23 side is in a far better place than the senior setup. Just look at how much a breath of fresh air Anthony Elanga has been over the last few months.
Another star in the making is James Garner. The English midfielder, for whatever reason, has been left on the fringes of the first-team for a few years now. The talent is so obviously there. We’ve been a big fan of his for ages.
Nottingham Forest are benefitting from his services this season. Garner has improved week-on-week for the Championship outfit, while always offering a constant reminder that he’s a United star in the making.
He’s played Premier League opposition on a few occasions. He bossed it against Arsenal earlier this season. Yesterday evening against Liverpool was more of the same.
The young man didn’t look out of place going against Liverpool’s fantastic midfield. Precise passing, work ethic, quick decision making and an overall positive performance. Surely he can offer more than an ageing Nemanja Matic at this stage? Surely it’s worth a risk giving him some first-team minutes next term?
Perhaps if Ralf Rangnick were hired before Garner went on loan to Forest, the decision may have been different. Who knows, the plans for Garner to be promoted to the first-team may already be in place, but one thing is for sure, this young man knows how to play.
As you’d expect, the United fans were buzzing all over Twitter, full of praise for the 21-year-old loanee who more than deserves his chance.
