According to various reputable sources including Sky Sports, Manchester United have rejected Chelsea’s opening bid for star striker Wayne Rooney. The club have also reiterated that Rooney isn’t for sale at any price, and are willing to run down his contract which he has two years left on.
It isn’t clear what Chelsea’s opening bid was for Rooney. Some reports are suggesting it was around the £25million mark, others stating Juan Mata and £10million was offered. Whatever the bid was, I think United have done the right thing in rejecting it. If we sold Rooney to Chelsea they’d be almost a certainty to win the league next year so we need to continue to play hardball and make them pay through the roof for him.
Ideally we’d sell him abroad but I genuinely cannot see that happening as the change in lifestyle would be too big for Rooney. If Chelsea come back with an offer of £20-25million + Mata for him, I’d drive him to Stamford Bridge myself!
