United set to end pursuit of England left-back

Manchester United look all set to end their pursuit of Everton left-back, Leighton Baines. The 28-year old had been linked with a move to Manchester United all summer, but Everton look set to offer him a new contract which will make him their highest paid player.

United failed with a £15m bid for Baines on transfer deadline day, but the Toffees expect the Old Trafford club to come back in January with an improved offer. For me £15m is the most I would offer for Leighton Baines, especially when there are talented players like 18-year old Luke Shaw who will probably be available for a similar amount.

Baines has two years left on his 50k a week contract, but Everton are trying to convince him to sign an extension on that, whilst upping his wages.

Baines has featured 18 times for England, scoring one goal.
