Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic is set for his first minutes of pre-season action tonight, as a United XI take on Crewe Alexandra. The United captain did not travel on the tour of Asia, due to a bout of sciatica that was deemed ‘not serious’ almost immediately.
There is always a concern about the 31-year old after his long-term injury a couple of years ago, but thankfully it looks as though he’ll be ready for the start of the Premier League season in three weeks time.
David Moyes confidently said Vidic will play tonight, but admitted the game has come too soon for want-away striker Wayne Rooney:
“Vidic is coming on well. If everything goes well, he’ll play tomorrow evening at Crewe.”
“At the moment we still think Rooney is on course to be involved in [the Stockholm] game.”
The boss also confirmed that the only player who isn’t available for the game against Kitchee is Jonny Evans.
