United to raid Everton for duo

Having been consistently linked with the duo since Moyes’ arrival at Manchester United, The Guardian are reporting that we ‘may’ bid £30m for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines. This comes after the Fabregas deal looks dead in the water.

I’m not sure whether I believe this or not though, as we’ve already bid £12m for Baines and that was rejected, plus Fellaini has a £23.5m buyout clause. The only signing made at the club so far is the £2.5m spent on Guillermo Varela; who looks set to go on loan at Boca Juniors.

United desperately need a midfielder – Darren Fletcher is still sick due to his bowel problem and Paul Scholes has recently retired. We need at least one more body in that area, ideally two. Fellaini would certainly do a job for us in midfield, and he did finish last season as Everton’s top scorer.

Leighton Baines would definitely improve our starting line-up. He’s currently the best full-back in the country both attacking and defensively. Patrice Evra has had a superb career at United but he’s 32 now and doesn’t have much time left at the top level.

Roberto Martinez has recently stated that no bids have been made for either player, but there is still a few weeks of the transfer window left so we’ll have to wait and see…

  1. I really dont think we will get Baines, or even need him for that matter. Evra is still looking good and i expect Fabio to take his place eventually. Himself and Buttner will get more games this season. I would take Fellaini in a heartbeat. I dont know why the media and some fans make out he isnt good enough for United. Remember what he did to us in the first game last season? Bossed our midfield, class player and cheaper than Fabregas.
