Spanish media outlet COPE, are claiming Manchester United are willing to pay €30m to Athletic Bilbao for their midfielder, Ander Herrera. The 24-year old has previous against United, after dominating our midfield for Bilbao in the Europa League a couple of years ago.
It is thought that the Basque club would prefer to keep Herrera on their books after already losing a key player in Fernando Llorente this summer, and the club would only sell Herrera if his €36m buyout clause is met. The player is under contract in Bilbao until 2016.
Its worth noting that COPE were the first to get Thiago Alcantara’s transfer to Bayern Munich correct, so there definitely could be something in this story. I’d welcome Herrera at United, he’s a top player and has plenty of years ahead of him yet.
According to various sources, his agent has recently followed various Manchester United players, including Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney. This further adds fuel to the fire about a possible transfer.
Moyes has until Monday night to get some deal done, so you’d hope for some news on the transfer front at some point today.
