United willing to pay £52m to sign talented defender who Mourinho personally scouted: report

Manchester United Football Club are still struggling defensively. Jose Mourinho’s reasoning to sign a new centre-half in the summer certainly is making sense aplenty right now.

We all know a move didn’t happen. The manager was left frustrated. He hasn’t given up hope, though. According to a report from Football Italia, as they translate a piece from La Nazione, the Red Devils are willing to spend up to £52million in order to sign Fiorentina centre-half, Nikola Milenkovic.

To add to that, Mourinho personally watched Milenkovic play for Serbia during the international break, where the manager was also keeping a keen watch on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from SS Lazio.

Aged just 21, I’m not quite sure that making such an expensive move for Milenkovic makes sense right now. United need experience, they need the proven, Premier League player.

Milenkovic is young and still learning. Although he’s brilliantly talented, it would have to be considered a gamble. We’ve seen how Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have been struggling this season, why bring in another youngster and just add to the pressure on the defenders at the club?

At this point, I’d much prefer a move for a 30-odd-year-old who can take control – if only for a year or two.
