Man United are set to welcome Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek back to training after injury.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United have now begun their pre-season action, beating Derby County just yesterday.
As you’d expect, the squad was a youthful one, mostly due to the fact that senior players have spent the summer representing their countries. However, slowly but surely, the more familiar faces will start to return.
Well, United have now been given an injury lift too, as a key pair are set to return to training in one week. That’s according to Solskjaer himself, per Laurie Whitwell.
Both Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek are close to making their returns. Both struggled in 2020/21, while the duo also had their summer’s ruined due to injuries just as they were set to head off to the European Championships with France and Holland respectively.
Although their confidence and fitness levels are both probably low right now, at least we now know they’re going to get some pre-season minutes under their belt – which can only be a good thing heading into a new campaign.
For Martial, this is a chance at redemption. He was unusually average over the last eight months or so, but we know what he’s capable of when in full flow. No doubt the pressure he’s feeling will be turned into a positive, with Martial now hungrier than ever to prove people wrong.
In regards to Van de Beek, this already feels like a make or break for his United career. If the former Ajax man struggles again over the next twelve months, I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised to see United cut their losses on the 24-year-old already.
It’s great to hear these guys are close to returning from injury and hopefully, they can make a positive impression during pre-season.
