Van Gaal identifies these four players as summer signings – report

Manchester United are edging closer to a spot in the top four for next season, but whether or not that happens, Louis van Gaal is still planning on going on another spending splurge – bringing plenty of new faces into Old Trafford to further enhance the first-team squad.

According to The Mirror, Van Gaal and the club Vice-Chairman Edward Woodward have identified these four targets as potential summer signings.

On top of the list is thought to be Kevin Strootman. The AS Roma man has had another injury-hit season in Italy, but his relationship with Van Gaal could well mean the move is still likely to happen.

Next up is another midfielder in the form of Wolfsburg’s Kevin de Bruyne. The former Chelsea player has been playing scintillating football in the Bundesliga, and is certainly after another chance in the Premier League in the not too distant future.

Finally, the Mirror reckon that the Dortmund duo of Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan are high priorities. Hummels simply has to be our number one target this campaign, whereas Ilkay Gundogan would certainly be that marauding midfielder we’ve been lacking.
