Raphael Varane is Man United’s number one transfer target, or so it seems…
At this point, this story is already beginning to drag on and the transfer window doesn’t officially open for the best part of a month. Nonetheless, here we are again…
Manchester United are once more being linked with a move to sign Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
Sport‘s Friday print edition, translated via Sport Witness, has a small update for United fans in regards to Varane. Apparently, the top-class 28-year-old is the ‘priority’ signing for United, as the Reds ‘want to convince’ Real Madrid to part ways with the Frenchman this summer.
Sport doesn’t stop there, either. They also state United are interested in signing a second player from Madrid; Atletico’s Kieran Trippier.
It seems clear that United’s main aim this summer is to strengthen the defence. With Varane having just one year left on his contract, I genuinely believe there’s a good chance the World Cup winner leaves the Spanish capital this summer.
There’s no doubt he’d instantly become our best centre-half as soon as he walks through the doors, with defensive solidity exactly what this team needs to seriously challenge for the Premier League title.
As for Trippier, this is a depth signing. The Englishman offers something different to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while I reckon both would complement each other nicely.
Honestly, this seems like two sensible signings to make from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s standpoint. Neither would break the bank, meaning there’s probably just about enough to go out there and sign Jadon Sancho, too…
I’d doubt any move officially happens before the European Championships, though.
