Varane medical complete, official announcement a matter of hours away: report

Raphael Varane is now so close to officially sealing a move to Man United.

Manchester United’s move for Jadon Sancho took a while, but the Englishman is signed, sealed and delivered. A similar scenario is playing out with Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman arrived in Manchester just before the weekend, though quarantine rules meant he had to self-isolate for the best part of a week before the deal could be progressed any further.

After undergoing the first part of his medical today, it was expected that Varane would have the rest of his tests today.

Well, I’m happy to report that the medical has been completed, the contract is being signed (June 2025, with the option for an extra year), and an announcement is expected within a ‘matter of hours’. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano.

Suddenly, this signing feels very real. Varane will likely be announced as a Red Devil at some point this evening and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have a top-class centre-half he can call upon.

Sadly, it looks very unlikely we’ll see Varane play against Leeds United at the weekend. Obviously, we’re now about 60 hours away from that game being played, with the Frenchman yet to even train with his new teammates.

The good thing about Solskjaer is he’ll give Varane plenty of time to settle in before throwing him into the heat of battle. Perhaps he’ll be utilised as a substitute against Leeds, ready to be called upon in case someone else gets injured.

Either way, Varane is ours. He’s a world-class centre-back who is slap-bang in the middle of his prime years. I absolutely can’t wait to see that man in action.
