Man United could be nearing in on a deal to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
The need for a top-class centre-half is there for all to see. Manchester United have searched far and wide for the ideal Harry Maguire partner.
Raphael Varane’s name is the one that has crept up most often. The Frenchman, who has just a year left on his Real Madrid contract, could be available in a cut-price deal this summer.
Credit to United, who are looking to strike while the iron is hot. The latest update comes from Spanish journalist, Lucas Navarrete. He states that the 28-year-old’s transfer to United is ‘not going to take very long’. So-much-so that a deal could be done in the next few days – as that’s what both clubs want to happen.
United and Madrid are still discussing the finer details over the transfer fee, though Navarrete insists that the move will be official soon.
Well, it certainly looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to land his man. And what an incredible coup this will be for the Old Trafford club.
Varane is someone capable of having a similar effect to that of Virgil van Dijk or Ruben Dias. He’s that defensive stalwart who can sniff out danger, he’ll help keep clean sheets and most importantly, the World Cup winner is a leader.
He brings experience to a relatively young squad, in an area where United need the most help. Hopefully, it’s not too long before this move is signed, sealed and delivered. Varane is a drastic upgrade on the likes of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof. I can’t wait to see him in action.
