Manchester United have several key players with contracts winding down, as the club are looking to tie as many as possible to new deals.
One such player is Ashley Young. The make-shift full-back is out-of-contract this coming summer, but he’s prepared to make a huge commitment to remain at Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, the 33-year-old, who currently earns £130,000-a-week, is set to take a pay cut of around £30,000-a-week – to just below the six-figure mark.
This is real commitment from Young, who has always given his all as soon as he arrived in Manchester way back in 2011. As a squad player, his versatility, ability and general worth ethic has proved vital on several occasions.
Personally, I have no problem with him sticking around. Young is a super player to have in the squad, but we shouldn’t be putting faith in him to play as a right-back every single week. That’s just not fair as it’s not his natural position and he is an ageing player.
Sure, keep him around to fill in as and when needed, but he was exposed against Manchester City last time out, and we shouldn’t be relying on him so heavily.
