A pair of Man United players are set to leave upon the expiry of their contracts this summer.

I think it’s tough to gauge just how large the rebuilding job at Manchester United is. There’s certainly too much work for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to do in one transfer window anyway, that’s for sure.

Several players will leave during the upcoming window, some for transfer fees, some on free transfers. Raphael Varane has confirmed his exit already, though another duo are set to leave when their contracts expire.

It’s Sportskeeda with the story, who relay information from Sky Sports journalist, Pete O’Rourke. We’ve tried to find the source of the information and we believe it was said live on air yesterday.

Apparently, O’Rourke reckons both Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton will depart, as their deals are running down.

Heaton has been nothing more than a back-up keeper since returning to United a few years ago, only playing when injury strikes or rotation is needed. The Chester-born-shot-stopper has never let the Red Devils down.

As for Evans, what a year it has been. We all assumed he’d be brought in as cover, though he has played more than his fair share of games – and he has performed brilliantly in most of them.

The 36-year-old deserves immense credit for what he has done. I’d personally consider giving him another year, though in a reduced capacity as he continues to get older.

I fully understand the decision, if he chooses to leave, as he may want the regular starts at this stage in his career.

For United, this frees up some money off the weekly wage bill, that can be re-invested back into the squad over the next few months.

Do you think letting these guys go is the correct decision? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
