Man United given injury lift, Victor Lindelof back in training before derby

Victor Lindelof is now back in Manchester United training, after missing the last few games with injury.

Credit where it’s due, Eric Bailly has massively stepped up in Lindelof’s absence. However, having squad depth is going to be more important than ever this season. Fixtures are congested, games are being played with little rest in between. Simply put, we need everyone fit and available wherever possible.

Yesterday, we learned that only Edinson Cavani and Phil Jones were going to miss the Carabao Cup semi-final this evening – which led us to believe that Lindelof was indeed back available for selection.

Well, now that big injury lift has been confirmed by Solskjaer, who added that the key star is back in training ahead of tonight’s derby against Manchester City.

Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:

Of course, the training is just after we’re talking, so we haven’t had the training this morning. Victor [Lindelof] has been training, he’s been with us. Edinson [Cavani] is suspended.” Solskjaer told reporters, including the Manchester Evening News.

Some may say that Bailly deserves to play the majority of games anyway, which may well be true. Recency bias is a real thing, though. It’s easy to forget how important Lindelof has been for us over the last eighteen months or so.

Yes, the Ice Man may see his minutes reduced from now until the end of the season (provided Bailly can keep fit of course!). Though Lindelof still has a massive role to play.

The 26-year-old not only offers Bailly some protection from injury. It also means Harry Maguire can grab some well-earned rest, too. Our club captain has hardly been able to put his feet up and recharge the batteries this season. If we’re not careful, that’ll eventually catch up with him.

Will Lindelof play tonight? Probably not. This weekend’s game against Watford feels like the perfect place to get him back involved, though it’ll be nice to have the Swede back on the bench this evening.
