Victor Lindelof concerns leave Man United open to signing a centre-back: report

Defensively, Manchester United were looking far more secure before play was halted due to COVID-19 – with Harry Maguire taking the defence by the scruff of its neck and turning things around.

However, it seems as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t settled on Slabhead’s long-term partner, though…

The story comes from ESPN, who write that United are ‘open’ to adding another central defender to the squad during the summer transfer window – due to concerns about 25-year-old Victor Lindelof.

Apparently, Solskjaer wants to add more competition for the Swede, who has endured a ‘mixed campaign’.

Honestly, the Ice Man has been better lately, though there are some games where he looks like an absolute nervous wreck from start to finish. Eventually, that’s going to cost us.

I do think the answer could already be at the club, though. You look at Eric Bailly who looks back to his best, while Axel Tuanzebe’s form was excellent before he picked up an injury.

It’s also worth noting that Chris Smalling has significantly upped his game while on loan at AS Roma recently.

That said, the transfer links to centre-backs just aren’t going away and it does feel like there is a genuine interest in adding another defender when the window opens. Who United will settle on is anyone’s guess…
