Last night, Manchester United Football Club pulled off the impossible. The Red Devils came from behind to beat the Champions League favourites, Juventus.
Jose Mourinho was his typical self post-match, cupping his ear, goading the Juve fans while also upsetting a player or two, but make no mistake about it, he deserves that moment. The substitutions, the tactics, the performance. It was nigh-on perfect.
Again, though, the on-field star-of-the-show was none other than Victor Lindelof. The one they called the Ice Man was superb during the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, he followed that up with another commanding display.
Lindelöf’s game by numbers vs. Juventus:
1 interception
2 ball recoveries
8 clearances
34 passes
100% tackles wonAnother top quality performance. #MUFC pic.twitter.com/IPBSnzqBeG

As you can see from the stats above from the excellent Statman Dave, Lindelof was outstanding. The one that sticks out to me is 100% tackles won. Against top-class attackers like Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala, that’s mightily impressive. Whenever he was called upon, he stood up to be counted and played like an absolute warrior.
He also made an interception while clearing the ball whenever required. Lindelof was able to play the ball out from the back a bit, too, which is a rare commodity when you look at how easily panicked our current crop of centre-backs tend to be.
Now, it’s time for Lindelof to kick on and really continue to prove his worth. Alongside Chris Smalling, the pair is looking solid, but next up is a tricky game away at City. We’ll have to be at our absolute best yet again.
