Victor Lindelof will seemingly not be leaving Man United this summer, after a decision was made behind the scenes.
Manchester United is a changing club. INEOS are now in charge, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to return the glory days to the Theatre of Dreams.
This summer is massive. United fans want to feel excited and hopeful again. A positive transfer window will no doubt help out in that regard.
Players will leave as funds are needed to be generated for the manager to spend. Other fringe players will be kept around.
Well, one man who seemingly isn’t going anywhere is Victor Lindelof. According to Football Insider, United ‘have decided’ to keep the 29-year-old at the club despite injury problems.
The ‘Ice Man’ has been limited to 27 appearances across all competitions, though he has now been assessed as an ‘important’ player for the Reds, by INEOS and Mr. Ratcliffe.
With many initially expecting Lindelof to leave the club, this may come as a shock to some. However, it makes some sense. United cannot get rid of all their central defenders in one window. The Swede has been pretty reliable in the seasons leading up to this one, both performance-wise and fitness-wise. This time around feels like a blip rather than the trend.
Let it sink in. United have utilised 27 different centre-back combinations this season! 27! That is absolutely wild. Ten Hag needs to rediscover some consistency in that area of the field before those sloppy goals will stop being given away. Lindelof knows the club inside out. He’s been a loyal servant and more often than not, he is readily available. I do not mind this decision whatsoever.
Football Insider also believe Lisandro Martinez will stay despite his injury problems, but most United fans would have assumed he’s not going anywhere anyway.
