Man United are showing an interest in Victor Osimhen, as they weigh up a move to sign a new goalscorer.
Manchester United have themselves a Cristiano Ronaldo problem. The Old Trafford club floated the idea of letting the Portugal international leave over the summer, but for now, the greatest player of all time remains a Red Devil.
Erik ten Hag’s task of replacing the 37-year-old isn’t an easy one. Nor will it be a cheap fix for the 20-time Premier League champions. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has been viewed as a short-term solution, though big money is likely going to have to be spent to bring in a top-class alternative.
Well, according to the Manchester Evening News, Victor Osimhen is one possible option for United.
According to their Samuel Luckhurst, the 23-year-old attacker is ‘of interest’ to United, as the Reds look to find a new goalscorer.
Osimhen, who currently plies his trade for Napoli in the Serie A, has scored nine goals in thirteen games for the Naples-based side.
The Nigerian international is contracted to Napoli until 2025, though they could be placed under pressure to sell if the attacker enters into the final couple of years of his deal.
Osimhen’s time at Napoli has been impressive. Slowly but surely, the young attacker is improving.
Sources have told the MEN that United are ‘continuing to compile’ long lists of attacking targets as part of their recruitment process, so a move for Osimhen is not a sure-fire thing.
OTF’s verdict
The striker feels like an ideal fit for the way Ten Hag wants to play football. His excellent work ethic, clinical finishing and all-round game makes him an attractive option for any top side.
Osimhen would absolutely improve United, as the glaring need to bring in a proven goalscorer is there for the Red Devils.
There’s no doubt that this move would be one that’s more likely to take place over the summer, rather than in the winter window. So the club would have to be patient on this one.
