Victor Valdes was one of the best keepers in the world just a couple of years ago, but last season saw a dip in form and a cruciate ligament injury which ruled him out of the World Cup. Yesterday, Manchester United confirmed that Valdes was going to train at the club after completing his rehabilitation in Manchester, too.
First of all, its worth noting that Louis van Gaal and Victor Valdes have an extremely good relationship. The Iron Tulip was the coach that gave Valdes his debut twelve years ago, so it could literally be the fact that Louis van Gaal just wants to help an old friend out.
According to The Express, Valdes could sign for United on a short-term deal as early as January if all goes well whilst he’s at the club. I certainly wouldn’t be against the idea for a couple of reasons. First of all, it’ll push David de Gea onto a new level as he’ll be able to learn from the most successful goalkeeper in Champions League history. He’ll also provide a steady backup in case De Gea does get injured.
