Manchester United’s U23s continue to impress, with top talents galore looking to push on ahead and earn their place in the Reds’ first-team.
Perhaps United’s best young asset is James Garner. For whatever reason, the mega-talented midfielder has barely been used by Ole Gunnar Solskajer – which is confusing to me, particularly as our midfield has looked so shoddy recently.
Anyway, Garner continued to prove his worth by scoring yet again for the U23s last night – this time against Norwich City. It was a typically cool, calm and composed shot into the bottom corner to give his team the lead. You just wonder what this lad has to do to earn himself a senior call-up.
I felt like the Carabao Cup clash against Rochdale would have been the perfect moment for Garner. With United playing Chelsea in the fourth round, you feel his opportunity likely won’t come there. Perhaps Solskjaer will give him a chance in a Europa League game as the tournament progresses?
It just seems weird to me that Garner is being held back while others are being given chances. Solskjaer must be feeling less-confident about the 18-year-old than the likes of Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood, but the reasons why remains unknown.
For now, I guess all Garner can do is keep scoring, keep playing well and keep putting the pressure on. Either give him a chance or organise a loan move away for him. It really is that simple!
