Manchester United’s Premier League season kicks off tomorrow afternoon against Chelsea, though for our U23s side the action started last night.
The Red Devils started off in stunning fashion, beating West Brom’s U23s side 5-0. First and foremost I’d just like to say this was the best performance I’ve seen from this age group in years – and it actually came without Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood (who could well be with the senior team tomorrow).
One man stole the show, though; James Garner. The 18-year-old midfielder scored twice, while pinging passes all over the park for fun. He just looks a cut above this level and I can’t help but feel he should have been given more minutes during the tour.
Anyway, thanks to @ManUtd, who uploaded Garner’s stunning second goal on their Twitter page:
You just never know… If injury strikes to United’s midfield, which is an area of the pitch the club is already light in, Garner could well get his opportunity to prove his worth.
I’d love to see Garner play in the Europa League this season. After all, that was the competition in which Marcus Rashford made a name for himself. maybe our young midfielder could follow suit and start to make his mark? He certainly deserves the chance, in my opinion anyway…
