The Cristiano Ronaldo brand is huge. Hence why our Portuguese superstar being handed the number 7 jersey always felt somewhat inevitable.
‘CR7’. It’s global. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wouldn’t really care what shirt number his player is wearing as long as he’s banging in the goals.
For Ronaldo, however, it’s his image. If there was any way he’d be able to wear the number 7 this year, he’d pull out all the stops. With a little help from Edinson Cavani and a special request made to the Premier League, United managed to make it happen.
As you’d expect, our fans had been eagerly awaiting the news in regards to what shirt number Ronaldo would wear before flocking to the club shop to buy their jerseys.
Well, now we know. The massive queues outside the Old Trafford megastore are already starting to grow this morning, as fans flock to the stadium to pick up their new Ronaldo 7 jerseys.
United are always interested in making more money. Whether we like it or not, it’s a business first and foremost for the Glazer family. They’ll have viewed a move for Ronaldo as an opportunity to increase interest in the club – both financial and from a fan standpoint.
Well, that dream seems to be alive and well if the scenes outside Old Trafford are anything to go by this morning. Ronaldo is a player like no other. He brings fans along with him wherever he goes and the Reds will absolutely lap that up.
At £70-£100 a pop, the Reds are making a pretty penny on the back of these shirt sales and if Ronaldo continues to play like we know he can – then the money generated will only increase.
