In a game where the saying “a game of two halves” truthfully reflects on the events at Old Trafford yesterday, United squandered a two goal cushion and succumbed to a second half onslaught from London side Chelsea. Hernandez opened the scoring for United before Rooney added a second, then Hazard and Ramires hit back for the blues.
Similarly to the league game at Stamford Bridge, we started off like a train and found ourselves 2 up with 11 minutes on the clock. The first goal brought the ball of the season from Michael Carrick as he played a superb pass to Chicharito who coolly headed home. The second came from a Wayne Rooney free-kick which evaded everybody in the box, including the onrushing Petr Cech who was left in no mans land as the ball found its way into the far corner. If it not for a superb David de Gea stop late on, we could’ve and probably should’ve lost the game, we now have to head to Stamford Bridge for a replay.
