Manchester United Football Club is set to keep ahold of Matteo Darmian beyond the summer, with Jose Mourinho refusing to give up on the Italian right-back.
That’s directly from his agent, per The Metro, with the former Torino man to stay in the Premier League; presumably due to the injury crisis that is hitting the Red Devils pretty hard at this point in time.
It wasn’t that long ago when the self-proclaimed Special One admitted Darmian wanted to leave, so I don’t really see the logic in keeping an unhappy player around; particularly when Timothy Fosu-Mensah is probably just as good already, while having time to develop on his side, too…
With that said, Darmian has been pretty decent during pre-season tour so far. At times, he’s even donned the captains arm-band, further highlighting Mourinho’s faith in the Italian.
However, there is a reason that there has been talking of him wanting to leave. That’s because Darmian hasn’t been anywhere near good enough. Sure, he’s had a good game here or there, but the overall outlook for him hasn’t been a positive one.
It’s probably just best for everyone to let him leave and try to get through the early part of the season with the aforementioned Fosu-Mensah at right-back. If Mourinho plans on doing that, though, is another matter entirely…
