Wayne Rooney gets a real show of faith in him from England manager

Manchester United fans have been pretty harsh in their criticism of captain Wayne Rooney to start off this season, with Jose Mourinho going as far as dropping him from the regular line-up at certain points last month. However, recently he has fought his way back into the team and is playing well.

That has now been backed up by his international manager, Gareth Southgate. Reports say that the Three Lions interim boss has decided to keep the faith with Rooney, and has named him as captain for the upcoming match against Scotland tomorrow evening.

Southgate decided to bench Rooney for his last game as boss, where England struggled to a 0-0 draw against Slovenia. Now, with him back in the team, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him find the back of the net as he continues to prove his doubters wrong.

The minutes on the field will be excellent for him to get his confidence back and get the juices fully flowing – which can only benefit Manchester United going forward.
