Wayne Rooney has his say on when he’s expected to return from injury

Manchester United have been without their captain for the last month or so, after Wayne Rooney picked up a serious looking knee injury in the 2-1 defeat to Sunderland back in the middle of February. Recent reports have suggested that the 29-year old has suffered a setback, but that isn’t the case according to the man himself.

“It is going as planned. It is going how we first thought. It is going well so hopefully it won’t be too long now.” Rooney began. “It is not too bad. It is a difficult one to try and push. If I try and push and be involved now it could cause more damage.”

“So we are being cautious. After the international break is a more realistic target.”

Although Wayne Rooney hasn’t been anywhere close to his best this season it feels as though the team have been lacking that leader on the field in his absence, and the sooner he returns the better.

Rooney himself must be incredibly frustrated too as he’s so close to equalling Sir Bobby Charlton’s Manchester United record, and who knows, if a new manager comes in the summer he could well be on his way out.
