Manchester United Football Club have a new record holder on their hands, and it comes in the form of club captain Wayne Rooney. The 31-year-old scored his 250th goal for the club against Stoke City yesterday, and now stands alone as the top goal-getter of all time for this prestigous club – and my he did it in style.
The former Everton man has been at the club for thirteen years now, with Sir Alex Ferguson bringing him in as an eighteen year old way back in 2004. This will go down as one of Fergie’s best ever pieces of business, purely because of the longevity Wayne Rooney has given us.
On top of that, he’s absolutely won it all here. Five Premier League crowns out of thirteen season isn’t a bad return at all, and he also boasts two League Cups, one FA Cup and of course, that Champions League trophy from the 2007/08 season.
Credit to him for stepping up when it matters most, because it looked for all the world that United were going to lose against Stoke, but that one moment of brilliance rescued a solitary point; but one that could become all-important come the end of the season.
Today, United’s new hero took to Twitter and Facebook to thank the coaches and players he has worked with during his time here, and he did it in a classy manner.
The United captain sent out this tweet, with a video in the link (see below):
Would like to thank all the staff and teammates I have played with at Manchester United for helping me reach 250… https://t.co/SNLAvpBqyd
