Wayne Rooney set to continue in midfield

Louis van Gaal met the media yesterday, ahead of United’s home game against Newcastle on Boxing Day. Ahead of the game, the manager has said that he’ll probably field Wayne Rooney in midfield once again, due to the injuries that keep persisting within the squad.

“Against Aston Villa he (Rooney) was more of a defensive midfielder. He has the ability to run from box to box – that is also a little bit that he has to feel in the match, to read in the match that he can do that”

“That is a matter of time and I believe that he can do that.”

Versatility is one of Louis van Gaal’s key factors in every player in his squad, and for that reason Wayne Rooney is his perfect player. Our captain would put in a shift pretty much anywhere on the field, and he can play a lot of different positions extremely well.

There is no doubt that his goals will be missed up front though, however if United can get Radamel Falcao finding the net on a regular basis, that’d more than make up for it.
