Wayne Rooney has signed a new Manchester United contract, according to many sources including The Sun and The Metro. The deal will see Rooney stay at the club until June 2018, and is reportedly worth a huge £300,000 a week. Keeping our #10 at the club until he is almost 33.
It is also believed that When Nemanja Vidic leaves the club in the summer, Wayne Rooney will be made permanent captain of the club. Over the course of the contract, Wayne Rooney will earn a staggering £70.2m – the highest figure in Premier League history.
It is clear that David Moyes wants Wayne Rooney as the focal point of this new United side that is currently in the process of a massive overhaul, and it’d be a real coup if this turns out to be true. Its something that Moyes hasn’t had enough credit for if you ask me, because he ensured Rooney stayed in the summer of last year, and now it looks like he has tied our best player down to a new long-term contract.
There is a huge incentive for Rooney too. He now has the chance to really go for Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record, as he sits just 41 goals behind the Busby Babe.
