Manchester United appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager just less than a week ago, with the self-proclaimed Special One finally about to land his dream job. He has had plenty of backing from several United players already, and next in line is Wayne Rooney.
He has spoken out about the appointment of Jose, and claimed he is one of the best managers in the world and he’s looking forward to exciting times working with him.
“It’s exciting. Jose is one of the best managers in the world.” Rooney told reporters.
“He knows the Premier League really well. For myself and the other United players, it’s exciting times and I’m looking forward to it.”
The #10 has been shifted back into more of a midfield role over recent months, probably due to the form of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial up top. It still remains to be seen as to where Jose Mourinho will deploy Rooney, or whether he’ll start him at all, but you’d imagine a position in the middle of the park is more suited to him.
Before that, though, Rooney has a captain’s job to do at the European Championships. Then he can focus solely on life at Manchester United once again, as he nears Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record.
