Yesterday Manchester United fans learnt that their latest rumoured signing was Anthony Martial of AS Monaco, with the young Frenchman set to sign a long-term contract at Old Trafford – in a deal worth over £36million.
Morgan Schneiderlin was quizzed about the Frenchman, and he said that the club captain Wayne Rooney came and asked him exactly who Martial is.
Schneiderlin said: “On the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak.
“I told him he’s a great player with great potential, who has played some good matches with Monaco last season and the the beginning of this. I told him he is technical and powerful. A little like Therry Henry, even if it’s the press who are making that comparison.”
Whether or not Wayne Rooney doesn’t know anything at all about Martial remains to be seen. He wouldn’t be alone in that sense because the majority of Manchester United’s fans aren’t really clued up on the 19-year old who is set to sign for the club at some point today.
I think many fans are just relieved to see a new face coming through the Old Trafford doors, and hopefully he can make a big impact.
