Wayne Rooney would like to be captain of both Manchester United and England, according to The Sun. The 28-year old has captained both club and country on occasion, but he’d like the job on a permanent basis. I certainly think he’ll get the United captaincy in the summer, but he may have to wait for the England job.
Rooney said:
“I’ve captained a few times for United and if the manager wants me to be captain, I’d have no problem with that. I’d grab it with both hands.”
“You don’t know what Steven [Gerrard] is going to do in the summer, only he knows.” Rooney added.
“It’d be a great honour to captain my country but, again, it’s the manager’s call and I’m sure he’ll have a few contenders.”
For me he’s the only suitable choice as our next captain. We have no other real on pitch leaders in our current squad, and rather bizarrely Rooney has been at the heart of our team all season long.
Rooney has played over 430 times for Manchester United, scoring 210 goals.
