Just over a year ago, Marcus Rashford’s story began. The young forward from Wythenshawe was given his chance thanks to an injury Anthony Martial suffered in the warmup ahead of a Europa League game against FC Midtjylland – and boy did he take that opportunity with both hands.
On that occasion, Rashford scored two goals, before following that up with another brace against Arsenal in the league. Shortly after, his talents were confirmed when he won the Manchester derby with a bit of individual brilliance. He has since gone on to appear for his country a handful of times, as well as being a regular for his club under Jose Mourinho.
Today, the Daily Telegraph released an interview with the striker, conducted by the superb James Ducker. The young man covers a variety of topics and it definitely makes for intriguing reading.
During the interview, Rashford was asked about what he has learned from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and the 19-year-old Mancunian has some supremely kind words to say about his strike partner.
“You will see the benefits in years to come,” he said in an excellent exclusive interview with the Daily Telegraph. “What I have learnt from him is irreplaceable.”
That’s one of the things that was always apparent when we signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He wasn’t just brought in for his goals output, but also the effect he could have on the younger lads around him.
You clearly get the impression that Rashford is one of the players who has massively benefitted from playing alongside Ibrahimovic for a season and as he says, the things he has learnt will stick with him for the rest of what could be an outstanding career.
The form he is in right now has been glorious to see, and it’s particularly enjoyable watching him play as the striker after spending a large portion of the campaign out wide. Hopefully, he can grab himself a few goals and help us lift the Europa League trophy whilst also finishing in the top four.
