After completing his big money move to Manchester United in the summer, Wilfried Zaha hasn’t featured in a competitive fixture for Manchester United as of yet. After a more than impressive pre-season tour, his exclusion has baffled many Manchester United fans, but David Moyes will know exactly how to handle his young star.
At just 20-years old, Zaha still has an awful lot of developing to do. Even just training with the likes of Nani, Valencia, Giggs and Rooney will be making him a better player already. For me, Zaha has all the makings of a top class winger – he has the pace, skill, speed and determination, he even does his bit defensively to his credit. However with the extremely tricky start Manchester United had, its understandable that Moyes has gone to his older, more experienced players like Ryan Giggs.
He shown the country exactly what he is capable of in the Championship playoffs last year. It all started in the second leg of the semi-final against Brighton. The score was 0-0 on aggregate, and it looked as though a goal was only going to come if somebody made a mistake, or a player came up with a moment of brilliance. Up stepped Wilfried Zaha. He scored two excellently taken goals in the last twenty minutes to send Palace to Wembley to take on Watford in the playoff final. He once again proved what a big game player he is, by winning the penalty that led to the only goal of the game being scored, sending his former side up to the Premier League.
Antonio Valencia looks to have rediscovered that terrific wing play we all know he is capable of, so it’ll be hard to dispossess him from that position in the bigger games at present. He’ll just have to remain patient, and when he gets that all important chance whether it be from the start of the game or off the bench, he has to make an impact.
Perhaps his chance may come on the left wing as nobody has nailed down that spot for the bigger games as of yet. Although I’m sure the likes of Nani, Kagawa, Welbeck and Giggs will all have something to say about that.
The last thing I’d want to see is Zaha going out on loan. He needs to stay committed, keep impressing in training, keep working hard and work his way into the managers thoughts.
As David Moyes settles into the role, and the games start coming thick and fast just as they are starting to do at the moment, he’ll learn to utilise his squad more. Zaha will most likely get his chance against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup next week, and he has to make sure he grasps it with both hands similarly to Adnan Januzaj did against Crystal Palace.
