Why Diogo Dalot won’t be signing for AC Milan permanently: report

Diogo Dalot is unlikely to sign for AC Milan on a permanent deal.

That’s according to Milan Live, translated by Stretty News. Apparently, Dalot may be available for around €20m (£18m), with AC Milan taking him on a short-term deal over the summer, presumably with a view to buying him permanently.

However, the Portuguese is now fourteen games into life with the Serie A outfit. So far, he’s not impressing. Milan Live state that Dalot is showing ‘great fatigue’ particularly defensively, while his first few months in Italy have not been ‘exciting’.

Dalot was signed by Jose Mourinho a few years ago in a deal worth around £20million. Despite showing promising signs, the right-back was never really able to force his way into Mourinho’s or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

A loan move away from Old Trafford made perfect sense. After all, Dalot needs regular football. The 21-year-old is getting that right now, though the performances haven’t been good enough, it seems.

So what now for Dalot?

Unfortunately, plenty has changed as there was a time when Dalot was talked up as being a permanent fixture in that AC Milan side.

Upon his inevitable return to United, I’m not quite sure where Dalot fits in. He’s levels below Aaron Wan-Bissaka and personally, I’d go with Brandon Williams over the Portuguese.

I guess it’ll be down to Solskjaer to try and find a potential buyer for Dalot, though the longer he stays at United, the lower his transfer value will be.

The good news for Dalot is that he’s still young enough to make a name for himself. Albeit elsewhere from the Theatre of Dreams.

Spain would be a good fit. His style seems to suit the La Liga game. It just depends whether there are any clubs out there who are looking for a right-back. Either that, or a move back to his homeland of Portugal.
