Reports suggesting RvP is on his way to Old Trafford have been picking up pace over the last couple of days, with The Mirror claiming that Sir Alex has been telling his pals he’s confident we will tie up a deal for the 28-year old. In my eyes the forward position is far from where our attentions should lie.
First of all, if we are set to change to the 4-2-3-1 formation next year, it means that only one striker would be in the starting XI. We already have Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, and for the time being, Berbatov. How on earth could we possibly justify spending £20million+ on an injury prone 28-year old is completely beyond me. Surely the simple alternative would be to keep Berbatov and give him the playing time his performances warrant? The Bulgarian has acted so humbly over the past year or so, in my eyes, he deserves one last chance in our red shirt.
I just can’t help but feel the money could be put to better use, the Dutchman would probably ask for wages close to the £200,000 a week mark, it baffles me how we can let Paul Pogba go, and kick up a fuss when Danny Welbeck wants more money than we’ve offered, and we are refusing to budge claiming that we cant afford it? I wonder how they are feeling about the situation.
If this deal were to happen, we’d have to expect Danny Welbeck and Chicarito’s playing time would be limited, which would stunt their development and growth as players. In my eyes, we should be giving them every possibly opportunity to play. We should be encouraging them and watching them grow as players, that’s the United way.
The priorities have to lie in the left-back and midfield positions surely, we need cover for Evra, and I honestly think that one world-class midfielder could make all the difference. Taking Van Persie would be a gamble whatever the scenario, he’s in his late 20s and lets be honest, one serious injury problem could easily finish his career at the highest level, if not completely. Yes, he’s a good player when fit, but I honestly don’t think this ones a risk worth taking.
