Manchester United’s mantra has been based around nurturing and developing young players, before giving them first-team opportunities.
It’s worked well for the Red Devils during their glory years, so why change that habit?
Well, credit where it’s due, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tried to take a leaf out of his old mentor’s book by putting trust in youth. So far, it’s paying dividends.
You look at Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay who are leading by example. More recently, Brandon Williams and Dean Henderson are both coming on leaps and bounds, albeit the latter is doing it at Sheffield United while on loan.
Well, it looks set that both Williams and Henderson are set to be rewarded. According to a report from ESPN, the emerging United duo are ‘in line for new contracts’ to reflect their ‘impressive development’.
Both have only signed new long-term deals over the last twelve months, though United are considering fresh terms due to the way they’ve kicked on – and rightly so.
Both of these guys are the future face of Manchester United. Williams is giving Luke Shaw a real run for his money for that starting left-back slot, while Henderson looks destined to take over from David de Gea in the #1 jersey sooner rather than later.
It’s definitely good business sense to keep these guys happy and secure their future for the next few years by giving them new deals now – allowing them to focus solely on their football.
